Rather than ask myself the question of, “Am I happy?” “Will this make me happy?” “Will this provide a “happiness” utility?” I prefer to elevate the significance of Love. Love is critically important. Love is best defined as an enthusiastic affirmation of life. In this sense, Love is a conscious, intention expressed as recognition, appreciation, of seeing the integrity of the other as it authentically exists in the world.  Love, in this way, is the seeking to understand, and the acceptance of, truth in another being or experience. When we seek “meaning” in life, or fulfillment, it is the culmination of actively appreciating the truth in ourselves and in others. If I am to propose Love to be the highest source of motivation within my life, I necessarily establish Freedom of the individual as my highest value and must develop my ethics around principles which promote such Freedom.

“Sometimes people hold a core belief that is very strong. When they are presented with evidence that works against that belief, the new evidence cannot be accepted. It would create a feeling that is extremely uncomfortable, called cognitive dissonance. And because it is so important to protect the core belief, they will rationalize, ignore and even deny anything that doesn’t fit in with the core belief. ”

Growth thought:

You know how your muscles burn during a hard workout (fibers breaking down) and become sore the following day(growth). This is a biological process that must happen for change to come. There’s no other way.

I feel like it’s similar to our personal growth as people. Our brains. What keeps us comfortable will also keep us limited. Only will the uncomfortable (struggle, pain, breaking down, being vulnerable, being in the arena) will lead us to the path of growth.

6-9-15, I lived in these two apartments(upstairs and downstairs) for 20 years. That’s 2/3rds of my LIFE. A lot has changed from the landscaping…practically everything. PUSH THE ENVELOPE!!!!! The hardest part of achieving a goal is getting past your OLD YOU, your OLD habits. You CAN do it, make a DECISION. EVERY SINGLE DECISION even the small ones will dictate what direction your life heads in. It will NOT come easy, but I promise you it WILL be worth it!

Man often becomes what he believes himself to be. If I keep on saying to myself that I cannot do a certain thing, it is possible that I may end by really becoming incapable of doing it. On the contrary, if I have the belief that I can do it, I shall surely acquire the capacity to do it even if I may not have it at the beginning.

~ Mahatma Gandhi

Being challenged in life is inevitable, being defeated in life is optional. There is no talent, there is hard work, determination, and sacrifice. One name: Helen Keller. How the F does someone overcome the challenge of being deaf AND blind from birth, yet still obtain a bachelors degree just 1 of many achievements and contributions to society?

Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The REBELS. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of RULES. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they CHANGE things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.

“Remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose.

WE ALL FALL DOWN at some point in out lives. While we are down there we are supposed to FIND something.  If you do not find what you need to find…and somebody pulls you out you will eventually fall again and the next time could be worse. The point is stay down there until you find what you need to find…and if you get out and  shortly you realize you didn’t find it……throw yourself back in immediately. I’m not where I am today because things were simply given to me. I am where I am today because I voluntary or involuntary find myself down there and I

As a friend- Chose to visit or talk with one extra friend each week and create 52 additional discussions among friends for the year. Do something helpful and unexpected for one friend each week of the year and plant more than 50 additional possibilities of influence.
As a parent- Wake and act each day with the understanding that your actions will be absorbed by your children….and your children will grow to be contributing adults to the level of your influence. Add an extra 15 minutes each day to the time you invest with your children – an equivalent of more than two weeks each year at work. Imagine the exponentially positive effect of investing two extra weeks each year exclusively in the development of your children.
